DENVER - CSU Bakersfield's Tristan Watson and Corbin Chronister have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
Watson, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., took home a victory in the 110m hurdles at the Oxy Distance Carnival this past weekend. He crossed the line in 14.77 seconds defeating his next closest competitor by four tenths of a second. At the moment, Watson is ranked 14th in the nation and first in the WAC.
Chronister, a freshman from Bakersfield Calif., earned a pair of wins over the weekend. He posted his second-best toss of the season (180-04) to win the hammer throw before setting a season-best mark of 155-06 to take a win in the discus. Chronister rounded out a busy day with a third-place finish in the shot put (46-11.50) in his first attempt of the year. He is now ranked 19th in the nation for discus and 37th in shot put after this weekend's performance.
Other track nominee: Chicago State's DiJon Smith outran seven competitors as he won the 5,000 meter run at the Wendy's Seahawk Invitational.
Other field nominee: Chicago State's Landis Houston won the triple jump with a leap of 45-7.75.
