DENVER - Chicago State's Asia Johnson and CSU Bakersfield's Julianne Finch have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
Johnson, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., recorded her first title of the outdoor season after capturing the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.11 and finished 19 tenths of a second ahead of her nearest competitor. She also broke her own school record in the event after shaving 19 tenths of a second off of her previous mark of 14.30 that was set two years ago. Johnson is currently ranked fifth in the nation in this event.
Finch, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., placed second overall in the pole vault, but first amongst collegiate student-athletes. She posted a mark of 11-7.75 to rank 17th in the nation.
Other track nominee: CSU Bakersfield's Falon Wilson finished second in both the 100m dash and 100m hurdles placing her eighth in the nation with a time of 14.36 in the hurdles and 17th with a time of 12.05.
Other field nominee: Chicago State's Shedella Smith placed third in the shot put after a mark of 39-8 which ranks her 43rd in the nation.
