DENVER - Grand Canyon's Paige Hildebrandt and Jennifer Johnson have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 19-25.
Hildebrandt, a sophomore from Peoria, Ariz., placed second in the 3,000m steeple chase this past weekend at the Aztec Invite. She performed a WAC-best of 10:46.59 and is ranked ninth nationally.
Johnson, a redshirt senior from Peoria, Ariz., placed fourth out of 21 competitors in the pole vault with a mark of 3.97m. She currently is now ranked first in the WAC and tenth in the west region as she is tied at the 20th nationally best mark.
Other track nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Falon Wilson finished second in the 100m dash with a personal best time of 11.88 and finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.35… Chicago State's Asia Johnson won the 100-meter hurdle event with a school record time of 14.11… NM State's Tanisha Scott had two personal best times with the first one in the 100m dash (11.81) and the 200m dash (24.10)… Utah Valley's Savannah Neuberger placed fourth in the 800m event (2:12.08) and second in the 1,500m run (4:31.33).
Other field nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Julianne Finch finished second in the pole vault with a nation's 58th best mark of 3.8m… Chicago State's Shedella Smith finished third in shot put with a mark of 12.09m… NM State's Taniya Mitchell won the hammer throw event with a personal best mark of 52.29m and finished second with a mark of 12.28m in shot put… Utah Valley's Kallie Given placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m.
