DENVER - Grand Canyon's Vinnie Murphy and Deanna Salvatori have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 28 through March 6.
Murphy, a senior from Edgewood, Wash. (Fife HS), led a final round rally as the Lopes started the day in 5th place and ended up catching Long Beach State to win the Sacramento State Invitational. After shooting a 2-under par 70 to open the tournament and 2-over-par 74 in the second round, Murphy shot a 2-under-par 70 to finish 2-under-par 214 for the tournament to tie for third. He birdied two of his final six holes to help GCU secure the team win and earn his third top-5 finish of the season. He leads the WAC this season with a 70.71 stroke average.
Salvatori, a senior from Salem, Ore. (Sprague HS), nearly set a new school record with a 5-under-par 67 in the final round of the Wildcat Invitational to finish in a tie for ninth among some of the nation's top golfers with an even-par 216. Her near record round vaulted her 33 spots up the leaderboard for her sixth top-10 finish of the season. Here 72.75 stroke average is best in the WAC this season.

Other women's nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Shweta Mansingh tied for eighth at the UTRGV Invitational, shooting a 16-over-par 228 for her first top-10 finish of the season.
