WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced

Seattle U's Maddy Kristjanson and Andie Larkins have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 9-15. This is the first-ever honor for Kristjanson and the first honor of the season and second of her career for Larkins.

Kristjanson, a senior shortstop from Mountlake Terrace, Wash., hit .455 with one double, two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs over three games played last week as the Redhawks swept the series at CSU Bakersfield to move into a tie for first place in the WAC standings. She posted a 1.091 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage as she also walked once on the week. Kristjanson hit a home run in the top of the 10th inning of the weekend's first game, lifting Seattle U to a 4-3 win. In Friday's nightcap, she went 2-for-3 with a run. Kristjanson capped her weekend with a two-hit showing on Saturday, including her second homer of the weekend. She also doubled and drove in two runs in the contest.

Larkins, a junior right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., went 1-0 with a 1.24 ERA over 11.1 innings last week while holding opponents to a .128 batting average. She allowed just two earned runs on five hits while striking out 11 batters. Larkins pitched 4.1 innings in relief in the 10-inning game Friday, giving up no earned runs and three hits while striking out three. She then threw a complete game for her ninth win of the year Saturday, allowing just two hits over seven innings, matching her career high with eight strikeouts.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Victoria Castro of NM State hit .500 with one double ... Utah Valley's Basia Query hit .417 with a pair of homers and five RBIs last week.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: NM State's Kayla Green went 2-0 with 3.00 ERA last week ... Makayla Shadle of Utah Valley went 1-0 with a 1.24 ERA and eight strikeouts in 11.1 innings of work.
