WAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Grand Canyon's Mariah Montoya and Tarasue Barnett have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 9-15.

Montoya, a senior from Mesa, Ariz., placed second in the 5,000-meter run out of ten competitors this past weekend at the UCSD Triton Invite. Her time of 17:11.72 was enough to set a new Grand Canyon record, ranks her fourth in the WAC and 63rd in the west region.

Barnett, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, competed in the discus and shot put at the UCSD Triton Invite this past weekend. She placed second out of eight athletes in the discus with a mark of 56.61 meters. Barnett then had a mark of 14.17 meters in the shot put ranking her third in the WAC.

Other track nominees: Kansas City's Elizabeth Nolke placed second out of 61 athletes in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:44.90.

Other field nominees: Kansas City's Christy Nell won the pole vault event as she tied the school record of 3.77 meters… Utah Valley's Darcy Allen won the discus event with a mark of 47.75 meters for a personal best and a WAC third best this season.
