WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced

Kansas City's Alyx Bloom and Grand Canyon's Brianna Aguilar-Beaucage have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 16-22. This is the first-ever honor for Bloom and the third honor of the season and fourth of her career for Aguilar-Beaucage.

Bloom, a graduate catcher from Clay Center, Kan., hit .538 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, three runs scored and one RBI over five games last week as the Roos picked up their first WAC wins of the season. She posted a 1.077 slugging percentage and a .684 on-base percentage as she also walked five times on the week. Bloom recorded her first-ever three-hit games during the week against Creighton and CSU Bakersfield. She has had only one strikeout in her past 22 at-bats for an 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Bloom also threw out her conference-best 15th base stealer of the season.

Aguilar-Beaucage, a sophomore right-hander from Tucson, Ariz., went 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in a complete-game extra innings win over Seattle U in her only appearance last week. She allowed just two runs on six hits over 9.0 innings while striking out three. She held the Redhawks, which entered the week leading the conference with a .316 batting average in WAC play, to a .182 batting average in the victory.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Paige Johnson hit .556 with a .556 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage ... Laynee Gomez of Grand Canyon hit .600 with a double, one RBI and one stolen base ... Kelsey Horton of NM State hit .500 with a solo homer, a .714 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage ... Seattle U's Ally Choate hit .556 with two RBIs ... Kaylee Bott of Utah Valley hit .538 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Kansas City's Lynsey Conner went 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA and five strikeouts over 17.0 innings last week ... Shianne Smith of Seattle U went 1-1 with 2.33 ERA and nine strikeouts over 9.0 innings pitched last week ... Utah Valley's Makayla Shadle went 2-0 with a 2.47 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11.1 innings of work.
