WAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Utah Valley's Adrian Jones and Grand Canyon's Marcus Flannigan have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 16-22.

Jones, a sophomore from Meridian, Idaho, recorded a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC relays this past weekend. In the race, Jones clocked a WAC-best time of 8:53.27 to move up to 16th on the NCAA West region qualifying list and 27th nationally. His time also marked the second fastest steeplechase time in program history, sitting just behind UVU's former All-American runner. In addition, Jones continues his successful weekend with a personal record of 1:53.72 in the 800-meter race at the Long Beach State's Beach Invitational.

Flannigan, a senior from Chandler, Ariz., placed fourth in the long jump event at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend. With his mark of 7.65 meters, Flannigan is now tied for 40th in the nation, 20th in the west region, set a new personal record and is now on the top of the leaderboard for the WAC.

Other track nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Curtis Threlkeld clocked a WAC second-best time of 1:51.79 in the 800-meter event… Chicago State's DiJon Smith placed first with a school record time of 8:55.42 in the 3,000-meter run… Grand Canyon's Daniel Flores ran a WAC second-best time of 3:51.19 in the 1,500-meter event… Kansas City's Darrien Case ran the 1,500-meter event in 3:51.54… Seattle U's Matthew Seidel set a new school record of 14:21.18 in the 5,000-meter run… UT Rio Grande Valley's Mikel Escobar placed fourth in both the 800 (1:51.70) and 4x400-meter relay (3:19.57).

Other field nominees: Kansas City's Carter Grissom won the Javelin event out of 22 competitors with a nation's 70th best mark of 63.78 meters… Utah Valley's Daven Russell is now ranked 85th in the nation for his mark of 17.37 meters in shot put and performed a personal season best of 55.22 meters in the hammer throw event.
