DENVER - Utah Valley's Savannah Neuberger and Grand Canyon's Tarasue Barnett have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 16-22.
Neuberger, a junior from Herber City, Utah, moved atop the program's overall 800-meter record list with a WAC-best time of 2:09.30 at the Mt. SAC Relays. In addition, she finished seventh overall out of 46 and her time broke a 14-year record.
Barnett, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, won the discus event at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend in the elite/invite group. Her mark of 58.27 meters was half of a meter better than the person who finished right behind her in the standings.
Other track nominees: Grand Canyon's Alexa Hokanson performed a WAC second-best time in both the 800-meter (2:12.19) and 400-meter (56.04) events… Kansas City's Elizabeth Nolke clocked a time of 4:32.79 in the 1,500-meter run for a WAC second-best time… NM State's Katara Nelson won both the 200-meter event (23.17) and the 4x100 relay (45.76) before placing 7th with a WAC-best time of 11.67 in the 100-meter event… Seattle U's Olivia Stein shattered the school record in the 10,000-meter run with a winning time of 35:21.65.
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Alexa Pint produced a WAC-best mark of 41.04 meters in the javelin event… NM State's Taylor Stutely competed in two different discus events as she bested her 47.84 mark to a 48.61 mark in a different meet and also performed a 48.09 mark in the hammer throw… Utah Valley's Kallie Given won the high jump event with a mark of 1.70 to tie for the top spot in the WAC.
