WAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - UT Rio Grande Valley's Abraham Chirchir and Kansas City's Christopher Bryan have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 26-April 1.

Chirchir, a freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, finished 20th place out of 103 total runners as he posted a time of 29:36.39 at the Raleigh Relays. His time ranks second fastest in program history and is 56th in the nation. He currently is ranked 35th in the west region.

Bryan, a sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica, won the long jump event at the Jimmy John's ORU Invitational this past weekend with a mark of 7.53 meters. His mark was good enough to rank him second in school history and 35th in the nation. Bryan went on to place second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.37 meters in the same meet.

Other track nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Curtis Threlkeld won the 800 meter event with a season-best time of 1:52.80… Grand Canyon's Anthony Stennis placed fifth out of 26 competitors in the 400 meter hurdles in the Bobcat Invite with a personal-best time of 53.80 before finishing with a time of 53.87 at the Texas Relays… Kansas City's Jaquez Perry placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.64… Utah Valley's Tyson Lambert won the 3,000 meter event with a time of 8:49.46.

Other field nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Corbin Chronister had a mark of 49-07 in shot put, 157-04 in discus and 179-07 in the hammer throw as he placed third in all three events… Grand Canyon's Josh Hamberlin placed fifth in the hammer throw at the Bobcat invite with a mark of 58.68 meters before throwing a mark of 56.74 meters at the Texas Relays… UT Rio Grande Valley's Paul May placed second in shot put with a mark of 17.21 meters, had a mark of 50.83 meters in the discus and 42.42 meters in the hammer throw at the Bobcat Invitational before placing third with a mark of 16.70 meters in shot put at the Texas Relays… Utah Valley's Albert MacArthur won the triple jump event with a mark of 15.16 meters.
