DENVER - NM State's Kelsey Horton and Seattle U's Carley Nance have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 2-8. This is the first honor of the season and fifth of her career for Horton and the second of the season and of her career for Nance.
Horton, a junior second baseman from San Clemente, Calif., hit .750 with one double, four home runs, seven runs scored and eight RBIs over four games played last week. She posted an astonishing 2.375 slugging percentage as she had an extra base hit in all four games and multiple RBIs in each game. Horton also had an .846 on-base percentage as she also walked three times on the week. She began the week with a solo homer against rival New Mexico. In the series opener against CSU Bakersfield, Horton began with a timely two-run home run that tied the game in the first inning. In the second game of the series, the junior hit a pair of homers in her two at-bats. Horton closed out the series with an RBI double. She entered the week ranked 12th nationally with 12 home runs on the season and now ranks tied for fourth with 16.
Nance, a freshman left-hander from Maple Valley, Wash., went 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA over 10.0 innings last week while holding opponents to a .194 batting average. She allowed just two runs on seven hits. Nance threw three inning at No. 1 Washington last Wednesday, giving up just four hits against one of the nation's top offenses. She also struck out one. She followed up that performance with a complete-game three-hitter in the series finale against Kansas City on Saturday, a 1-0 win over the Roos. She struck out two and walked none in the shutout, her second of the season. Nance leads the WAC with 12 wins and 109 strikeouts on the season.

Madison Cathcart of Seattle U hit .444 with three doubles and two RBIs last week ... Utah Valley's Lyndsay Steverson hit .571 with a pair of homers and six RBIs last week.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Kansas City's Olivia Fluehr went 0-1 with 1.17 ERA last week ... Samaria Diaz of NM State went 1-0 with a 1.68 ERA and six strikeouts over 8.1 innings ... Utah Valley's Addie Jensen went 1-0 with a 4.04 ERA and two strikeouts in 8.2 innings of work.
