Three Grand Canyon Athletes Earn All-America Accolades at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Three Grand Canyon student-athletes – javelin thrower Jesse Newman, pole vaulter Scott Marshall and long jumper Marcus Flannigan – earned All-American accolades at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships tonight. Newman was a second team All-American with a ninth-place finish, while Marshall and Flannigan earned honorable mention honors.

Newman threw a personal best and school record 69.81 meters. The sophomore threw the program's best mark on his third attempt to finish ninth in the country.

A senior, Marshall cleared 5.15 meters in his third attempt to finish 20th overall and earn honorable mention  honors. He tied for 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn second team All-America honors earlier year.

Flannigan was the final Lope to begin competition, starting the long jump in the second flight. The senior, who qualified on his final jump at NCAA West Prelims, used his third jump to finish 21st with a leap of 7.38 meters. The mark earned him honorable mention honors.
