WAC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced

DENVER – Grand Canyon's McKenzie Cook and Abby Burton have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept 10-16.

Cook, a senior forward from Silverdale, Wash. (Klahowya Secondary) led the Lopes' offense and tallied eight points. She placed four goals in the back of the net over a two-win weekend. Cook scored two goals in a 4-1 victory against Portland State. She was also responsible for both goals in a 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton. Cook finished with 11 shots throughout the weekend, seven being on goal.

Burton, a redshirt senior goalkeeper from Peoria, Ariz. (Liberty), made ten saves in two victories for Grand Canyon. She snagged two saves against Portland State and eight more against Cal State Fullerton to clinch the 2-1 win. The senior played all 180 minutes and averaged a save percentage of .833.

Other offensive nominees: Desarae Felix of California Baptist scored her fourth goal of the season and third goal in the Lancers' last three games in a 2-0 victory against Southern Utah… Chicago State's Sara Quevedo scored two goals and added an assist against Western Illinois… Kansas City's Lexie Howard became the program leader in career goals and points with her 33rd career goal against Oklahoma State… Shentatious Knox of UT Rio Grande Valley scored her first career goal against No. 14 Texas.

Other defensive nominees: Romy Salvador of California Baptist grabbed one save against Southern Utah for a 2-0 shutout… Kansas City's Abby Small anchored the defense in a win over Iowa State and added a goal and an assist.
