Bone, Rivas, Aune Selected in MLS Superdraft
CHICAGO - On the first day of the 2019 Major League Soccer Superdraft, a pair of WAC midfielders heard their names called to start their professional careers.
Two-time first-team All-American Tucker Bone was the first WAC player taken as the Air Force midfielder went to Seattle Sounders FC with the 20th pick of the first round. The 2018 WAC Offensive Player of the Year helped lead the Falcons to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, scoring 13 goals and assisting on six others.
Bone is the fifth first-round draft pick in WAC men's soccer history, following Fresno State's Brian Johnson (1997, Pick 7, Kansas City Wizards), SMU's Tony Soto (1999, Pick 10, Los Angeles Galaxy), SMU's Paul Broome (1999, Pick 12, Dallas Burn) and Seattle U's Alex Roldan (2018, Pick 22, Seattle Sounders).
Seattle U midfielder Sergio Rivas was one of the first picks of the second round, going 26th overall to the San Jose Earthquakes. Rivas tallied 11 assists to go with four goals of his own in his final campaign on Capitol Hill.
The final WAC player taken was Seattle U defender Nathan Aune, who went 50th overall to the San Jose Earthquakes with the second pick of the third round.
