WAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – California Baptist's Buse Topcu and Idaho's Janelle Lucas have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 15-21.

Topcu, a sophomore from Ankara, Turkey, won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events in a dual against UC San Diego. Her time of 10:15.32 in the 1,000 freestyle ranks second-best in the WAC. She also recorded a time of 5:02.47 in the 500 freestyle and holds the fourth-best time in the conference.

Lucas, a senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., finished top-two in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as Idaho swept the top three spots in both diving events against Northern Colorado. She won the 1-meter dive by a 21-point deficit earning 280.42 points. Lucas also finished second in the 3-meter posting a score of 273.52.

Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Sabrina Zavala won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle in a dual against Fresno Pacific… Hanna McGowan of NM State swept both breaststroke events against New Mexico… Northern Colorado's Maddy Moore claimed two individual wins and helped a pair of relays to victory as UNC earned its fourth WAC-win of the season.

Other diver nominees: Emily Dunkerson of California Baptist earned first in the 1-meter dive and second in the 3-meter against UC San Diego… NM State's Raina Brommer scored 282.60 points to take first in the 1-meter dive against New Mexico… Celeste Llona of Northern Colorado finished third and fifth against Idaho.
