WAC Women's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Idaho's Katie Hale and Janelle Lucas have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 22-28.

Hale, a freshman from Park City, Utah, led Idaho in a tri-dual sweep against Grand Canyon and Simon Fraser as she won three individual events and led off a winning relay. She won the 50 freestyle in 23.85 and the 100 backstroke in 57.48, both season-bests. Hale also won the 200 backstroke (2:06.19) and led the 200 medley relay to first (1:45.84).

Lucas, a senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., posted scores above 300 for both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives for the first time in her career. She won the 1-meter board with 305.75 points. On the 3-meter Lucas earned a score of 305.95, good for third place. This is her second week in a row earning this honor.

Other swimmer nominees: California Baptist's Isabella Rhodes won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 200 individual medley in a tri-dual sweep over Air Force and Pepperdine… Marina McInelly of Grand Canyon collected two individual wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as the Lopes defeated Simon Fraser.

Other diver nominees: Emily Dunkerson of California Baptist swept both diving events with 234.50 and 268 points… Grand Canyon's Menna El-Midany won the 3-meter dive with 309.60 points and took second on the 1-meter... Jenny Cheetham of Northern Arizona finished top-three in both dives against Boise State earning second with 296.10 points in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter with 269.85.
