DENVER – NM State's Pun Chanachai has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for Jan. 23-29.
Chanachai, a junior from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), tied a NM State program record with her fifth individual win of her career at the Mission Hills Individual Invitational in California. The two-time reigning WAC women's golfer of the year shot a 1-under-par 71 to win the 18-hole event on Monday. Her win ties her with current LPGA golfer and former Aggie Alena Sharp for the program record.
Other women's nominee: California Baptist's Samantha Martirez won her team match on the front nine and individual match on the back nine as part of the SoCal Ryder Cup with Cal State Fullerton.
