CBU, UVU Favored by Coaches to Win 2019 WAC Cross Country Titles
DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's cross country pre-championship coaches polls, as voted on by the nine head coaches in the league, who were unable to vote for their own teams. California Baptist is the favorite to win the women's race while Utah Valley is the favorite to win the men's race.
On the men's side, Utah Valley was selected to win the WAC Championship, receiving 47 points and five first-place votes. California Baptist was selected second with 45 points and three first-place votes and UT Rio Grande Valley took third with 30 points. Grand Canyon and NM state tied for fourth with 27 points with Seattle U selected at sixth. Kansas City is seventh, followed by Chicago State.
On the women's side, California Baptist is the favorite to repeat as conference champs with the Lancers earning six first-place votes and 61 points overall. Utah Valley was picked second with 59 points and the remaining three first-place votes. Grand Canyon is third with 46 points, followed by NM State in fourth at 40 points. Host Kansas City is picked fifth with 32 points, followed by UT Rio Grande Valley, Seattle U, CSU Bakersfield and Chicago State.
The 2019 WAC Cross Country Championships are this Saturday, Nov. 2 at Swope Park in Kansas City, Mo. The men's 8k race begins at 10 a.m. (CT), followed by the women's 6k at 11 a.m. (CT).
