GCU'S PATCHANA NAMED GOLFER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER
Grand Canyon's Siripatsorn Patchana has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for September.
Patchana, a junior from Anusawaree, Bangkok, Thailand, led both the Lopes and the WAC in scoring average through two tournaments play. The 2018 WAC Freshman of the Year averaged 72.4 through five rounds, earning a pair of top-15 finishes. In the season opener at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala., she tied for 10th with an even-par 216 and then she followed that up with a 2-over-par 146 in stroke play and a 6-up match play win over Kansas State's Reid Isaac at the East and West Match in Verona, Wis.
Other women's nominees: California Baptist's Jocelyn Chee was the co-individual medalist at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic and also added a top-25 finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic … Kansas City's Megan Lucas led the Roos over the first month of the season, posting a 75.67 stroke average over six rounds … NM State's Dominique Galloway averaged 72.7 strokes per round with two top-5 finishes in the first month of her senior season … Seattle U's Krystal Hu led the Redhawks with a 74.78 stroke average in three tournaments, including a third-place finish at the Boston College Intercollegiate … UT Rio Grande Valley's Tilda Green posted a stroke average of 76.0 to pace UTRGV in the month of September … Utah Valley's Kaylee Shimizu led the Wolverines in the month of September with a pair of top-25 finishes, including a tie for sixth place at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic.
ON THE COURSE
Most of the WAC women's golf world will be in Las Cruces next week as NM State hosts the Aggie Invitational and will welcome California Baptist, CSU Bakersfield, UT Rio Grande Valley and Utah Valley among others. Chicago State will remain in the midwest for the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis while Seattle U will head across Lake Washington for the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash.
BY THE NUMBERS
After one month of play, Grand Canyon's Siripatsorn Patchana leads the WAC with a 72.4 stroke average. NM State's Dominique Galloway is second at 72.7 while CBU's Jocelyn Chee and UVU's Kaylee Shimizu tied for third at 73.3. As a team, NM State holds the top scoring average at 295.8. Grand Canyon is second (297.4) followed by Seattle U in third (301.0).
WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER
California Baptist's Jocelyn Chee became the first medalist of the season, tying for the top spot at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic with an even-par 213 over 54 holes. NM State became the first WAC team to win a tournament, taking first at the Colonel Wollenberg's Ptarmigan Ram Classic with a 26-over-par 890.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS TO THE LONE STAR STATE
For the first time since 2004, the WAC Championship heads to Texas as Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville will play host to the conference tournament on April 26-28, 2020. Designed by Byron Nelson and Joe Finger, Riverhill has been host to over 40 USGA and Texas Golf Association events.
