WAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Air Force's Wen Zhang and Grand Canyon's Pietro Hufnagel Toscani have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Nov. 4-11.
Zhang, a freshman from Dothan, Ala., led the Falcons to two dual wins over conference foe Grand Canyon. He collected gold in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute 38.94 seconds, this being the quickest time in the conference in the 200 freestyle event. Zhang also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle as he touched the wall in 45.16, placing him in a tie for second in the conference. On top of the two individual wins, Zhang swam the lead leg for Air Force's 200 freestyle relay as they picked up a first-place finish on day two of their dual with the Lopes.
Toscani, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil claimed his second Diver of the Week honor as he completed four first-place dives over the weekend. He picked up two top finishes in the 1-meter event with scores of 316.85 and 299.90 while also managing to earn two gold medals in the 3-meter event with scores of 326.85 and 346.50.
Other swimmer nominees: Grand Canyon's Mikhail Lyubavisky swam to a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:36.15) and 1000 freestyle (9:32.47).
Other diver nominees: California Baptist's Evan Honer earned silver in the 1-meter diving event (565.10) and landed a sixth-place finish in both the 3-meter and platform diving events.
