WAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – CSU Bakersfield's Loren Gillilan and California Baptist's Evan Honer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Gillilan, a junior from Fort Collins, Colo., picked up three individual first-place finishes as the Roadrunners took on Pomona-Pitzer and California Baptist over the weekend. Gillilan touched first in the 200 butterfly (1:48.53), 100 butterfly (47.58) and 200 individual medley (1:52.26). The junior's times in the 100 and 200 butterfly are the fastest among the conference up to this point in the season. Gillilan's 200 IM time is also good for third in the conference this year.
Honer, a freshman from Surprise, Ariz., competed in the Lancers tri-dual with CSU Bakersfield and Pomona-Pitzer where he took home gold in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events. Honer's 3-meter dive (336.90) score leads the conference this season while his 1-meter score (309.35) places second among conference divers.
Other swimmer nominees: Air Force's Isaac Gwin earned full points for his team in the 200 individual medley (1:55.78), 100 backstroke (49.84) and 100 freestyle (46.18)... California Baptist's Sean Foster managed three first-place finishes as he took home gold in the 100 breaststroke (55.83), 200 breaststroke (2:04.15) and 50 freestyle (21.23)... Greg Raper of Seattle U swam to two top finishes over the weekend as he took first in the 50 freestyle (24.04) and 100 freestyle (52.93)... UNLV's Panos Bolanos managed two first-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:51.06, 1:47.93) and another top finish in the 100 backstroke (50.26) as the Rebels traveled took on BYU and Utah.
Other diver nominees: Air Force's Brett Jenkins took gold in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 278.25 and 295.20, respectively... CSU Bakersfield's Sam Stinson claimed first on both the one and three-meter boards with scores of 288.05 and 270.30, respectively... Jesse Cawley of UNLV picked up a first-place finish in the 3-meter event, scoring a 288.80 during the Rebels trip to Utah.
