WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
Kansas City's Christopher Bryan has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for Dec. 2-9.
Bryan, a graduate student from St. Catherine, Jamaica, took home gold in the 60-meter hurdle event as the 'Roos competed at the Bob Timmons Challenge in Lawrence, Kan. Bryan finished ahead of competition from schools that included Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma State. He finished the race in 8.25 seconds, which would have been good for the third-fastest time in the conference based on times from last season. With a mark of 7.46 meters, Bryan also took first in the long jump event.
Other track nominee: Utah Valley's Kevin Lynch finished with the top time in the 3000-meter run (8:36.20) at the Weber State Invitational from Dec. 6-7.
WOMEN
Kansas City's Sommer Herner has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for Dec. 2-9.
Herner, a sophomore from St. Joseph, Mo., finished the week with a pair of top-two finishes at the 2019 Mel Tjeerdsma Classic in Maryville, Mo. She took first in the 1000 meter run with a time of two minutes and 54.46 seconds. She also took home silver in the mile run, clocking in at 4:57.13. Herner's mile time would have been the third-fastest time in the conference just a year ago.
Other track nominee: Utah Valley's Calli Adamson notched a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter dash (7.26) while also leading her team to a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay (4:18.57) at the Weber State Invitational.
