USC Scholar All-Region Teams Include Five WAC Standouts
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches Association (USC) announced the NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-Region teams and four conference members have been selected. Kansas City, Utah Valley and UT Rio Grande Valley each earned one selection while Seattle U added two more award winners.
Abby Small, a senior defender from Kansas City, Mo., was the conference's only second-team honoree as she was selected to the Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team. Small posted a 3.60 grade-point average while pursuing a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Small also earned First Team All-WAC honors for her play on the backline in 2019.
Rachel Bowler, a senior defender from Honolulu, Hawaii, earned a third-team selection for Seattle U as she posted a 3.40 GPA while pursuing a degree in digital design. Bowler also earned First Team All-WAC honors for this season.
Jessie Ray, a senior forward from Portland, Ore., added a second third-team selection for Seattle U. While pursuing a degree in cell and molecular biology, she has maintained a 3.90 GPA. Ray adds to her collection of accolades as she was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Year and WAC Tournament MVP while also earning First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Tournament Team selections.
Kinga Szemik, a senior goalkeeper from Pietrzykowice, Poland, represented UT Rio Grande Valley on the Third-Team Scholar All-West Region Team as she holds a 3.89 GPA and is pursuing a degree in psychology. Szemik is the first women's soccer player from UT Rio Grande Valley to earn the award. The senior was also named to the All-WAC Second Team and WAC All-Tournament Team this season.
Hannah Bruce, a senior defender from Cole Harbour, Canada, represented Utah Valley as a third-team honoree as she recorded a 4.0 GPA while pursuing a degree in psychology. This marks the first USC Scholar All-Region selection in school history for the Wolverines. She was also an All-WAC First Team selection for the 2019 season.
