WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER – Grand Canyon's Da'jah Daniel has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 16 through Dec. 22.
Daniel, a senior forward from Killeen, Texas, led the Lopes to three wins on the week, including a game-winning shot with less than a second remaining in a 58-57 win over UC Santa Barbara. She started the week off with six points to go with 11 rebounds and three blocks in a 53-51 win at home against UNLV. Against UCSB, she finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks. In her final game of the week, she finished with 16 points and seven rebounds in just 30 minutes against Whittier. On the season, the senior leads the WAC in rebounding at 9.6 per game and blocks at 1.7 per game and is eighth in scoring at 12.6 points per game. She also has the second-best field goal percentage at .570.
Other nominees included: Kansas City's Ericka Mattingly averaged a double-double with 10.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game in a home split against Eastern Washington and Liberty … Seattle U's Courtney Murphy scored 20 points as the Redhawks ran away with a 72-49 win at Cal Poly … UT Rio Grande Valley's Trelynn Tyler made a career-high five three-points on her way to 27 points in a tight loss to Long Beach State as the Women of Troy Classic … Utah Valley's Eve Braslis put up 23 points in a loss to Weber State and followed that up with 10 points in a win over Utah State.
