WAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – California Baptist's Rebeca Oviedo and NM State's Italia Aranzabal have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 16-22.
 
Oviedo, a sophomore from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, came away with four top-two swims as the Lancers competed in the UNLV Invite in Las Vegas. Her top performance came when she finished first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16 minutes, 49.61 seconds, also good for first in the conference. She managed to finish second in the 500 freestyle (4:54.14), 400 individual medley (4:25.15) and 200 freestyle (1:50.08). Oviedo's 400 individual medley and 200 freestyle times are also good for fourth and third among the conference, respectively.
 
Aranzabal, a freshman from Mexico City, Mexico, finished with the top dive in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events as the Aggies competed in San Antonio. She recorded a 275.90 at the 1-meter height to take gold and landed a 267.00 in the 3-meter event to earn her second win.
 
Other swimmer nominees: NM State's Katherine Harston completed the week with first-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:09.34), 500 freestyle (5:13.23) and 1000 freestyle (10:46.91).
 
Other diver nominees: California Baptist's Kiree Lowe finished the week with a pair of top-three finishes as she finished second in the 3-meter event (244.00) and third on the 1-meter board (239.50).
