WAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – CSU Bakersfield's Curt Threlkeld and Corbin Chronister have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
Threlkeld, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., recorded the top 800-meter time in the NCAA for the second week in a row. He took first at the Ben Brown Invitational with a time of 1:51.22. Threlkeld has finished first in back-to-back meets and has earned three first-place finishes in two meets this season.
Chronister, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., earned first in the Hammer Throw and seventh in the Shot Put at the Ben Brown Invitational. His mark in the Hammer Throw of 198'5" ranks third in the country and is sixth all-time in the CSU Bakersfield record books. He also threw a personal-best of 50'3.5" in the Shot Put.
Other track nominees: California Baptist's Simon Bedard finished fourth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:26.69… Matthew Brown of Chicago State won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.50 which is best in the WAC, second-best in the NCAA, and set a school record.
Other field nominees: Chicago State's Orelle Bulgin posted the best Triple Jump mark in the conference at 13.84 meters to win first at the Seahawk Invitational.
