WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
CSU Bakersfield's Curt Threlkeld and Corbin Chronister have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
 
Threlkeld, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., recorded the top 800-meter time in the NCAA for the second week in a row. He took first at the Ben Brown Invitational with a time of 1:51.22.
Threlkeld has finished first in back-to-back meets and has earned three first-place finishes in two meets this season.
 
Chronister, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., earned first in the Hammer Throw and seventh in the Shot Put at the Ben Brown Invitational. His mark in the Hammer Throw of 198'5" ranks third in the country and is sixth all-time in the CSU Bakersfield record books. He also threw a personal-best of 50'3.5" in the Shot Put.
 
Other track nominees: California Baptist's Simon Bedard finished fourth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:26.69… Matthew Brown of Chicago State won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.50 which is best in the WAC, second-best in the NCAA, and set a school record.
 
Other field nominees: Chicago State's Orelle Bulgin posted the best Triple Jump mark in the conference at 13.84 meters to win first at the Seahawk Invitational.
 
WOMEN
California Baptist's Anett Somogyi has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
 
Somogyi, a junior from Veszprem, Hungary, recorded the fastest 5,000-meter time in the NCAA crossing at 16:26.78. She took first at the Occidental Distance Carnival. Somogyi destroyed her old personal-best by more than 40 seconds and sits in second on the all-time school record list.
 
Other track nominees: Chicago State's Brenda Jepkoech broke the school record in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:56.22… Riley Slayton of CSU Bakersfield notched the fourth-best NCAA time in the 400-meter hurdles taking first with a time of 62.83.
 
THIS WEEK IN WAC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
On the men's side, five Lancers placed in the top ten. Simon Bedard had the best finish claiming fourth in the 5,000-meter. Timothy Legemet clocked in at 14:30.39 to take ninth in the 5K. CBU shined in the 1,500-meter race with three Lancers landing in the top ten. Dennis Messmer took seventh followed by MIke Alukunyang and McMarshall Hartzenburg in ninth and tenth, respectively.  The women were led by Anett Somogyi who won the 5,000-meter in an NCAA-best and personal-best time of 16:26.78. Anna Mate also finished top-ten stealing sixth in the 5K. Five Lancers set personal-bests in the 1,500 meter with Emilie Renaud finishing best at fourth.
 
CHICAGO STATE
The Cougars put together a 4x100 meter relay that shattered the school record setting a new one at 41.29. The relay finished first. Matt Brown won the 100-meter dash posting a 10.50. His time is second-best in the NCAA, a WAC-best, and school record. Brenda Jepkoech also broke a school record in the 1,500-meter run. She finished in 4:56.22 and took fifth.
 
CSU BAKERSFIELD
The Roadrunners posted another successful outing at the Ben Brown Invitational. Curt Threlkeld earned his third first-place finish of the season. He improved his 800-meter time again to 1:51.22, the best in the NCAA this season. Riley Slayton took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a  time of 1:02.83. She is now sixth best on the program's all-times list. On the field side of things, Corbin Chronister threw a personal best in the Hammer Throw reaching 198'5". He is ranked third-best in the nation and sixth all-time for the program.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2019 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place  in Orem, Utah May 9-11. Utah Valley is set to host at the Hal Wing Track & Field.
