WAC Golfers of the Week Announced
DENVER – UT Rio Grande Valley's Alvaro Hernandez and NM State's Pun Chanachai have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week for March 6 to March 12.
Hernandez, a senior from Tenerife, Spain (I.E.S. Los Cristanos), tied for third at the Border Olympics, firing an 8-under-par 208. He set a new program record to open the tournament, firing an 8-under-par 64 and followed that up with a 3-under 69 before finishing the tournament with a 3-over-par 75 to finish in a tie for third place with an 8-under-par 208. The 72-hole score was the sixth-lowest in program history.
Chanachai, a junior from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), tied for 22nd at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, shooting an 11-over-par 227 to finish ahead of two top-50 golfers and a top-100 golfer to lead all WAC players.
Other men's nominees: California Baptist's Harrison Kingsley logged his third-straight top-15 finish by shooting 216 on the week … Kansas City's Francois Lagraulet posted his best finish of the year, tying for 14th at the Border Olympics with a 3-under-par 213 … Utah Valley's Jake Bryson moved up 16 spots on the final day to tie for 24th at the Bandon Dunes Championship with a 7-over-par 223.
Other women's nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Julie Lucio tied for fifth at the UTRGV Invitational, carding rounds of 78, 71 and 74 … Utah Valley's Carly Dehlin Hirsch recorded her first career hole-in-one en route to a 28th place finish at the BYU at Entrada Classic.
