WAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – CSU Bakersfield's Curt Threlkeld and Utah Valley's Albert MacArthur have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 12-18.
Threlkeld, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., recorded the top 800-meter time in the NCAA for the third straight week. He took first at the Hornet Invitational finishing with a time of 1:49.74. This is his fourth first-place finish this season and third week in a row being named WAC Athlete of the Week.
MacArthur, a junior from Port Orchard, Wash., finished best in the long jump at the UNLV Spring Invitational. His jump of 7.68 meters is currently second-best in the nation. He also set a new program record in his first outdoor competition of the season.
Other track nominees: Matthew Brown of Chicago State won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.45 which is best in the WAC and a new school record… Grand Canyon's Daniel Flores ranks 24th in the nation in the 1,500 and 800 meter runs… Yashawn Hamilton of UT Rio Grande Valley finished fourth in the 100-meter dash and tenth in the 200-meter at the UTSA Invitational.
Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Jorden Okyere broke the school record in the Shot Put and Discus and leads the WAC in the Shot Put… Michael Gonzalez of UT Rio Grande Valley placed top-ten in the Shot Put, Discus, and Hammer Throw with his best finish being third in the Shot Put.
