WAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Grand Canyon's Alexa Hokanson and UT Rio Grande Valley's Idatonye Cheetham-West have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 19-25.

Hokanson, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., broke the school record for the 800-meter run for the second-straight week. Her time is the best in the WAC this season. She ranks 11th in the country and 8th in the West Region.

Cheetham-West, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, tied the program record in the Long Jump. With a leap of 6.14 meters, she took first at the Cactus Cup and is best in the conference. Cheetham-West's mark is also seventh-best in the nation and third in the West Region.  

Other track nominees: California Baptist's Fruzsina Ladanyi placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run as three other Lancers also placed top-ten… Claire Fulhage of Kansas City took second in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase finishing in 11:31.84… Asjah Wallace of NM State took second and third in the 100- and 400-meter Hurdles setting a new program record in the 100… UT Rio Grande Valley's Ashley Hughes set a meet record for the 200-meter dash winning it in 24.27 seconds.

Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Alyson Schwartz tied for the top mark in the Pole Vault clearing three bars without a miss and reaching 3.87 meters… Matia Finley of Kansas City placed top-ten in the WAC in all three throws with her best being second in the Discus… NM State's Keyarha Wilson took home third place as she jumped 1.66 meters in the High Jump.
