ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
Grand Canyon's Daniel Flores and CSU Bakersfield's Corbin Chronister have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 19-25.
Flores, a senior from Glendale, Ariz., ran the fastest 1,500-meter time in the WAC finishing in 3:52.42. He took sixth at the SDSU Aztec Invitational defeating athletes from Oregon, Arizona, UC Santa Barbara, and Loyola Marymount. His time ranks 24th in the West Region and 47th in the nation.
Chronister, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., placed first in the Hammer and Discus Throws and second in Shot Put at the Cal Poly Invitational. His Hammer Throw mark of 62.30 meters ranks 24th in the nation and first in the WAC. He also leads the conference in the Discus and is fourth-best in the Shot Put. His Hammer Throw mark qualifies

Other track nominees: McMarshall Hartzenburg of California Baptist placed best for the Lancers in the 1,500-meter run clocking in at 3:59.47… Kansas City's Walker Miller ran the fourth-best 3,000-meter Steeplechase time in the WAC this season… Kyle Marroquin of UT Rio Grande Valley took fourth in the 110-meter Hurdles with a time of 15.09.
Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Chris Linnin broke the High Jump school record and tied for first in the WAC with a mark of 2.10 meters… Perry Adderley of Kansas City notched the second-best Shot Put mark and sixth-best Discus mark in the conference.
WOMEN
Grand Canyon's Alexa Hokanson and UT Rio Grande Valley's Idatonye Cheetham-West have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 19-25.
Hokanson, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., broke the school record for the 800-meter run for the second-straight week. Her time is the best in the WAC this season. She ranks 11th in the country and 8th in the West Region.
Cheetham-West, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, tied the program record in the Long Jump. With a leap of 6.14 meters, she took first at the Cactus Cup and is best in the conference. Cheetham-West's mark is also seventh-best in the nation and third in the West Region.
Other track nominees: California Baptist's Fruzsina Ladanyi placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run as three other Lancers also placed top-ten… Claire Fulhage of Kansas City took second in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase finishing in 11:31.84… Asjah Wallace of NM State took second and third in the 100- and 400-meter Hurdles setting a new program record in the 100… UT Rio Grande Valley's Ashley Hughes set a meet record for the 200-meter dash winning it in 24.27 seconds.
Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Alyson Schwartz tied for the top mark in the Pole Vault clearing three bars without a miss and reaching 3.87 meters… Matia Finley of Kansas City placed top-ten in the WAC in all three throws with her best being second in the Discus… NM State's Keyarha Wilson took home third place as she jumped 1.66 meters in the High Jump.
THIS WEEK IN WAC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancer men placed two in the top ten of the 1,500-meter at the UC Riverside Spring Classic. McMarshall Hartzenburg led the team finishing in fifth in 3:59.47. Koby Ghadery joined him in the top-ten at ninth in 4:03.95. For the women, CBU had four top-ten finishers. Fruzsina Ladanyi, Emilie Renaud, and Natalia Novak took 5-6-7 with Ladanyi leading the way at 4:35.97. Karolina Iznerowicz crossed at 4:41.56 to take ninth.
CSU BAKERSFIELD
Corbin Chronister qualifed for the NCAA Regional Championships tossing the Hammer Throw over two hundred feet for his first time. He took first with a mark of 204-04.75 and now ranks 24th in the nation.
GRAND CANYON
The Lopes continued their record-breaking trend with Alexa Hokanson and Chris Linnin each setting one. Hokanson broke the 800-meter record again with the nation's 11th-fastest time. Linnin broke the High Jump record with a leap of 2.10 meters. Trey Johnson won the Long Jump and Paige Hildebrandt won the 3,000-meter Steeplechase. Sarah Root improved her 100-meter Hurdles time to 14.04 to stay in best in the WAC. Daniel Flores leads the WAC 1,500 meter breaking his own season record.
KANSAS CITY
The Roos recorded three top-five all-time performances in school history and took gold in two events. Perry Adderley notched the third-best mark in school history in the Shot Put at 16.63 meters. Ekhard Van der Watt also reached third-best in program history in the Pole Vault. Claire Fulhage rounded out the program-best sliding in at fifth in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase. Walker Miller won the 3,000-meter Steeplechase in 9:39.34 and Josh Sanders claimed gold in the 1,500-meter run in 3:59.68
NM STATE
Asjah Wallace set a new program record in the 100-meter Hurdles at the Fearless Champion Open. Wallace finished second in a time of 13.72. Elana Kresl took home the gold in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase finishing in 11:08.06.
UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
UTRGV competed in the Roadrunner Invitational and the Cactus Cup. They took third for the men and second for the women in the Cactus Cup as they took home seven event victories. Idatonye Cheetham-West tied the program Long Jump record and won the event with a distance of 6.14 meters. Ashley Hughes claimed her second-straight victory in the 200-meter dash in 24.25 seconds. She also took part in the winning 4x400 meter relay. The men's 4x400 relay won in 3:18.23. The Vaqueros swept the 5,000-meter run earning 1-2-3-4 led by Fernando Escobar. Dorcas Koech participated in the Roadrunner Invitational where he took second in the 3,000-meter run.
UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverine men took first and women third at the UC Riverside meet. Alex Lawrence and Albert MacArthur both took first in the Pole Vault and Long Jump, respectively. Andre Jones won the 400-meter Hurdles crossing at 52.63. Daven Russell earned gold in the Hammer Throw and Shot Put. Sean York continued the throwing dominance winning the Javelin. Savannah Neuberger ran the 800-meter in 2:10.45 to finish best.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2019 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place in Orem, Utah May 9-11. Utah Valley is set to host at the Hal Wing Track & Field.
