DENVER - Grand Canyon's Jake Chanen and NM State's Pun Chanachai have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 3 to April 9.

Chanen, a junior from Phoenix (Thunderbird HS), fired three sub-par rounds to tie for third place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Ariz. He consistently improved over the tournament, shooting a 2-under-par 70 in the first round, a 3-under-par 69 in the second round and a 4-under-par 68 in the final round to finish with a 9-under-par 207. He had a streak of 35 straight holes without a bogey during the tournament and helped lead the Lopes to a third-place team finish as well thanks to a WAC-best 17-under-par 271 in the second round.

Chanachai, a junior from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), set a new program record with her sixth individual win after earning medalist honors at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz. The two-time WAC Player of the Year shot an 8-under-par 208 to earn the title by four strokes. Her best round came on the first trip around the course, shooting a 5-under-par 67. As a team, the Aggies took third among 20 teams competing.

Other men's nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Henry Fisher led the team with a 3-under-par 213 to tie for 20th-place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic … Utah Valley's Gabe Lysen tied for 32nd at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, shooting a season-best even-par 216.

Other women's nominees: California Baptist's Jocelyn Chee won a playoff to earn medalist honors at the Indiana Spring Invitational with a 2-under-par 142, also helping the Lancers win their third team title of their inaugural Division I season … UT Rio Grande Valley's Julie Lucio tied a career-low with a 1-under-par 71 in the second round of the Kansas City Intercollegiate.
