WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced

DENVER – Seattle U's Bailey Thompson and California Baptist's Kellye Springstead have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 8-14. This is the second honor of the season and of her career for Thompson and the second honor of the season and of her career for Springstead.
Thompson, a sophomore catcher from Tucson, Ariz., hit .857 (6-of-7) with a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .900 on base percentage with a pair of doubles and four RBIs as the Redhawks went 3-0 on the road at Utah Valley last week. She also added two runs scored, two walks and a hit by pitch. Thompson opened the week with a 3-for-3 performance with a double and a pair of RBIs. In the first game on Saturday, she was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBIs.
Springstead, a senior right-hander from Honolulu, Hawai'i, appeared in four of the Lancers' five games last week, making four starts with three complete games. She posted a 1.17 ERA and held opponents to a WAC-best .189 batting average. Springstead struck out a WAC-high 22 batters over 24.0 innings while allowing just four walks. In a 3-2 loss to UC Riverside to open the week, she allowed three unearned runs on five hits while striking out eight. In a 5-2 win against NM State on Friday, Springstead gave up just five hits, a walk and two runs while striking out seven. She then threw a shutout in a 2-0 win on Saturday with seven strikeouts and just three hits allowed.
Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Cheyann Tucker of California Baptist hit .455 with a double, two home runs and four RBIs ... Grand Canyon's Savannah Tourville hit .333 with a home run against No. 9 Arizona last week ... Bre Hunter of Kansas City hit .636 with two RBIs as the Roos went 2-2 on the week ... NM State's Nikki Butler hit .615 with a home run and five RBIs as the Aggies went 2-2 on the week.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Avery Fitch went 1-1 with a 0.84 ERA and six strikeouts over 8.1 innings ... Ryan Denhart of Grand Canyon went 0-1 with a 2.17 ERA and four strikeouts over 9.2 innings ... Kansas City's DJ Cannon went 1-1 with a 2.80 ERA and seven strikeouts over 10.0 innings on the week ... Analise De La Roca of NM State went 1-0 with a 1.83 over 7.2 innings last week ... Seattle U's Andie Larkins went 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA and four strikeouts in one appearance last week.
