WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
CSU Bakersfield's Curt Threlkeld and Utah Valley's Albert MacArthur have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 16-22.
 
Threlkeld, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif., shaved more time off of his 800-meter personal-best. He finished top ten at the Mt.SAC Relays and hold the fastest time in the WAC at 1:48.93.
Threlkeld ranks 42nd in the nation.
 
MacArthur, a junior from Port Orchard, Wash., recorded a top-five finish at the Mt. SAC Relays in the Long Jump at 7.48 meters. He also finished top-ten in the Triple Jump with a personal best of 15.64 meters. MacArthur ranks 25th in the Triple Jump and 27th in the Long Jump throughout the NCAA.
 
Other track nominees: California Baptist's Simon Bedard ran a 14:11.28 in the 5,000 meter, a personal record… Jason Fambrough of Kansas City notched the third-best WAC time in the 10,000 meter at 30.35.78… UT Rio Grande Valley's Brandon Sanders posted a time of 47.37 in the 400-meter to take second at the meet and place himself best in the conference. 
 
Other field nominees: Corbin Chronister of CSU Bakersfield finished top ten in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 60.42 meters, his second-best mark of the year… Grand Canyon's Moataz Hassan set the third-straight school record in the Shot Put reaching 16.33 meters… Lukas Van Der Watt jumped 4.95 meters in the Pole Vault to earn seventh at the Kansas Relays… UT Rio Grande Valley's Sky Tatum threw the fourth-best Discus mark in program history and second-best in the WAC at 49.90 meters.
 
WOMEN
Kansas City's Carolyn Ross and UT Rio Grande Valley's Diamond Thomas have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 16-22.
 
Ross, a junior from Scottsbluff, Neb., notched a school record in the 400-meter Hurdles at the Kansas Relays. She won the event in a time of 59.73, good for best in the WAC. Ross is the first Roo to break the one-minute mark in program history. She also ranks 55th throughout the NCAA.
 
Thomas, a senior from Houston, Texas, finished second in the Discus and third in the Hammer at the J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight. The senior tossed a mark of 52.73 meters in the Discus to rank second in program history. Thomas is best in the conference for the Discus Throw and second-best in the Hammer. She also ranks 45th in the nation for Discus.
 
Other track nominees: California Baptist's Anett Somogyi posted the third-best 5.000-meter time in school history at 16:39.13… Alexa Hokanson of Grand Canyon set a school record, personal record, and the best WAC time this season in the 800-meter crossing at 2:07.01…NM State's Lashira Tremble set a personal-best in the 200-meter dash and leads the WAC… Ashley Hughes of UT Rio Grande Valley broke the 400-meter program record for the third time this season and ranks 80th in the NCAA.
 
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Chesney Walker notched the fifth-best Heptathlon score in school history tallying 4,118 points and winning the Javelin Throw… Taniya Mitchell of NM State broke the Hammer program record that had stood since 2006 with a mark of 59.56 meters… Seattle U's Caylah Lunning posted a program record in the Long Jump at 5.76 meters.
 
THIS WEEK IN WAC OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancers competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational. In the 5,000-meter Simon Bedard set a personal-best in a time of 14:11.28. His time placed him third-best in school history. Hector Peralta made his collegiate steeplechase debut finishing in 9:46.52. Natalia Novak finished the 1,500-meter in 4:34.96 just missing out on the program top-five by less than five seconds. Mke Alukunyang had a similar outing missing the program's top-five list by less than three seconds in 800-meter.
 
CSU BAKERSFIELD
Alejandra Frausto started off the Bryan Clay Invitational recording her second-fastest 5,000-meter time. Gabe Gaeta led the men's side recording his second-fastest time in the 400-meter Hurdles. At the Mt. SAC Relays Corbin Chronister and Curt Threlkeld competed for the Roadrunners. Chronister threw his second-best mark of his career and finished eighth in the Hammer. Threlkeld once again improved his 800-meter time placing eighth in 1:48.93.
 
CHICAGO STATE
The Cougars competed in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
 
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon continued their streak of breaking school records with Elizabeth Balsan breaking the 5,000-meter time by over three seconds. Moataz Hassan broke his Shot Put record for the third consecutive meet at 16.20 meters. Alexa Hokanson broke her 800-meter record finishing in 2:07.71. Guillermo Matesanz ran the second-fastest WAC-time in the 400-meter Hurdles at 52.91.Bryson Benjamin followed suit running the 400 in 48.05, second-best in the conference. For the women, Dora Filipovic posted a personal-best in the 200 at 24.12.
 
KANSAS CITY
The 10,000-meter runners led the Roos at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays.Katherine Hanners took sixth while Jason Fambrough finished third, the best all time for UMKC. Bryce Miller took fourth in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase and Sarah Jaloma took eighth in the 10,000-meter. Chesney Walker posted a score of 4,118 in the Heptathlon, fifth-best in school history. Carolyn Ross won the 400-meter Hurdles in a school record best at 59.73. She posted the fastest time in the WAC and 55th in the NCAA.
 
NM STATE
NM State competed in the Beach Invitational over the weekend. Lashira Tremble finished eighth in the 100-meter. The Aggies 4x400-meter relay took third in a time of 3:45.39.

SEATTLE U
Caylah Lunning led the Redhawks at the Bryan Clay Invitational jumping 5.76 meters in the Long Jump to break the school record. Michaela Moore, Ellie Postma, Siobhan Rubio, Nicole Golba, and Michelle Newblom all posted personal records in their respective events. On the men's side, Stewart Keene finished just. 0.16 seconds short of a school record in the 800-meter. Isaiah Payne, Zach Gonzalez, and Lucas Milne also set personal-bests. Two others competed at the Mt. SAC Relays. Cal Davidson-Turner posted a time of 31:59.70 in the 10,000-meter and Eli Boudoris ran a 9:14.17 in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase.
 
UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
UTRGV recorded four top-ten finishes at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight. Ricardo Mendoza had two taking fifth in the 800-meter run and sixth in the mile. Sierra Spinler also placed in the mile recording fifth. Alexandrea Hurst snagged second in the Shot Put.
 
UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverines recorded 12 personal-bests between three meets.Andre Jones ran the 400-meter Hurdles and took second in a time of 52.26. Albert MacArthur placed top-five in the Long Jump at the Mt. SAC Relays and top-ten and personal-best in the Triple Jump at the Beach Invitational. Courtney Peters earned a top-ten finish in the 400-meter and set a personal-best in the 200-meter.
 
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2019 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place  in Orem, Utah May 9-11. Utah Valley is set to host at the Hal Wing Track & Field.
time again to 1:51.22, the best in the NCAA this season. Riley Slayton took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a  time of 1:02.83. She is now sixth best on the program's all-times list. On the field side of things, Corbin Chronister threw a personal best in the Hammer Throw reaching 198'5". He is ranked third-best in the nation and sixth all-time for the program.
