UTRGV AND UMKC REPRESENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS
DENVER- UT Rio Grande Valley's Dominique Ibarra and Kansas City's doubles team Katie Fries and Grace Ball have been named the Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week for April 17-22.
 
Ibarra, a senior from Barcelona, Spain, has won 13-straight singles matches and improved to 13-2 on the season. Her most recent victory came against an opponent from Texas A&M-Kingsville. Ibarra's last lost occurred on January 19 as she has now tallied 64-career singles victories, which ties second-most in program history.
 
Fries, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., and Ball, a sophomore from Wichita, Kan., continue a six-match win streak adding two more over the weekend against Saint Louis and Oral Roberts. The duo is undefeated this year when paired together and helped the Roos' to their tenth team win of the season.
 
Other female singles nominees: Kansas City's Katie Fries recorded her 12th win of the season extending her record to 8-2 within the last ten games and posting six wins in a row. 
 
Other female doubles nominees: UT Rio Grande Valley's Marine Darzyan and Dominique Ibarra improved to 11-4 on the season winning four-straight matches.
 
THIS WEEK IN WAC WOMEN'S TENNIS
CHICAGO STATE
The Cougars split over the weekend losing to Northwestern 0-4 but defeating Valparaiso 5-2. CSU opened against Valparaiso with a doubles point win. Katarina Drazic, Diana Borodina, Iesha Shepherd, and Lizi Morgoshia all won in singles to seal the team win. Drazic and Shepherd both won in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-0, respectively.
 
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City picked up two wins in the final weekend of regular-season play. The Roos topped Saint Louis 6-1 and Oral Roberts 4-1. UMKC swept Saint Louis in doubles play and earned the point against Oral Roberts. Kansas City finished just four matches against ORU before Katie Fries, Riddhi Sharma, and Thanushree Vale all won in singles to clinch the victory.
 
SEATTLE U
The Redhawks lost to Sacramento State 2-5. Seattle U swept doubles play to earn one point and Alisa Sabotic won by default from the No. 6 slot to earn the second.
 
UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
The Vaqueros swept Texas A&M-Kingsville in doubles play on their way to a 4-3 win. Dominique Ibarra, Michelle Walker, and Nethmi Waduge all claimed singles vctories for the win. Ibarra and Walker both won in straight sets with Ibarra posting the most dominant win at 6-1, 6-0.
 
2019 WAC TOURNAMENT
The 2019 WAC Men's and Women's Tennis Tournaments will be hosted by UT Rio Grande Valley on April 26-28 in Brownsville, Texas. No. 6 Seattle U faces No. 3 Kansas City while No. 5 Chicago State squares off against No. 4 UT Rio Grande Valley. No. 1 Grand Canyon and No. 2 NM State await their matchups depending on the outcome of the first round.
 
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2019 Tennis National Championships will take place in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus Collegiate Center on May 16-25.
