WAC Men’s Golf Postseason Honors Announced

DENVER – The 2018-19 All-WAC teams have been named following a vote of the WAC's eight head coaches. Kansas City's McCain Schellhardt was named WAC Player of the Year, California Baptist's Harrison Kingsley was named WAC Freshman of the Year and UMKC's J.W. VanDenBorn repeated as WAC Coach of the Year.
Schellhardt, a junior from Edmond, Okla. (Edmond Memorial HS), earned honor after leading the WAC in stroke average at 71.27. In ten events played, he posted seven top-10 finishes, five top-5 finishes and a win at the GCU Invitational in March. He placed fourth at the 2019 WAC Championship, shooting an even-par 213 to lead the Roos to their second-consecutive conference title.
Kingsley, a freshman from Murrieta, Calif. (Murrieta Valley HS), was named WAC Freshman of the Year after posting a 72.86 stroke average in his first season of collegiate golf. The leader after the first day of the 2019 WAC Championship, he finished in a tie for eighth, shooting a 3-over-par 216. On the season, he had a pair of top-10 finishes and one top-5 finish with a low round of 4-under-par 68 in both the first and third rounds of the Sacramento State Invitational in March.
VanDenBorn earned his third WAC Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Roos to their second consecutive WAC men's golf championship and third overall. A 2002 graduate of Kansas City, he was named head coach of the UMKC men's golf team in 2003 and director of golf in 2007. He was previously named WAC Coach of the Year in 2015-16 and 2017-18.
Schellhardt also earned first-team All-WAC honors. Joining him on the first team is California Baptist's Ben Hallam, UT Rio Grande Valley's Alvaro Hernandez, Grand Canyon's Filip Lundell, and NM State's Mike McGilton.
Kingsley headlines the All-WAC second team. Joining him is Kansas City's Max Catherine and Francois Lagraulet, Grand Canyon's Jake Chanen, and UT Rio Grande Valley's Pedro Lamadrid.
