Kansas City Headed To NCAA Austin Regional
INDIANAPOLIS - For the second straight season, the Kansas City Roos won the WAC Men's Golf Championship and for the second straight season, UMKC is headed to an NCAA Regional as the Roos will travel to Austin, Texas to compete for a chance to compete in the NCAA Championships.
The Roos overcame a late charge by Grand Canyon on the back nine to win the 2019 title on Monday by four strokes at Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash. Paul Foulquie led the Roos with a third place finish at 1-under-par while WAC Player of the Year McCain Schellhardt finished just one stroke back to take fourth.
Joining UMKC in the Austin regional on May 13-15 at University of Texas Golf Club will be top seed and regional host Texas, Southern California, Pepperdine, Clemson, TCU, championship host Arkansas, Iowa, Marquette, San Jose State, Saint Mary's, Sam Houston State, Prairie View A&M and Army West Point.
Other regional sites include Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.; Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.; TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrsells Inlet, South Carolina; University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Ky.; and University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. NCAA team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
