WAC Announces Pre-Championship Outdoor Track & Field Coaches Poll
DENVER- The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's outdoor track and field pre-championship coaches polls, as voted on by the nine head coaches in the league. Grand Canyon and Utah Valley tied as the favorite on the men's side while the Lopes took the honor for the women.
On the men's side, Grand Canyon and Utah Valley were picked as the favorites with four first place votes each and 46 points overall. UT Rio Grande Valley captured third place with 36 points. Next up is Kansas City with 31 points. California Baptist and CSU Bakersfield tied for fifth with 19 points each. Chicago State and Seattle U round out the field, respectively.
For the women, Grand Canyon was picked as the favorite to win the conference championship with seven first place votes and 63 points overall. NM State was close behind with 56 points and two first place votes. Utah Valley is favorited to finish third and had a total of 51 points. UT Rio Grande Valley grabs the fourth spot with 44 points. Kansas City claimed the fifth-place spot with 34 points and California Baptist followed with 30. Seattle U snagged 19 points closely followed by CSU Bakersfield with 18. Chicago State finishes the poll with nine points.
The 2019 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field championships will take place in Orem, Utah this Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11.
