WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
Utah Valley's Adrian Jones and CSU Bakersfield's Corbin Chronister have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 30-May 6.
Jones, a junior from Meridian, Idaho, notched a personal-best in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase completing it with a time of 8:48.75. His time places him second-best in program history and is a new best time in the WAC.
Chronister, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., won the Hammer Throw at the Titan Twilight throwing over 200 feet for the second time this season. He also threw a career-best 55.43 meters in the Discus taking third. Chronister leads the conference in the Hammer and Discus Throws while remaining fourth in the Shot Put.
Other track nominees: Jaquez Perry of Kansas City ran the third-best time in the WAC and fourth-best in school history in the 400-meter.
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Perry Adderley ranks top five in the conference for the Discus Throw and Shot Put and tossed the 11th best mark in the Hammer Throw this past weekend.
WOMEN
CSU Bakersfield's Riley Slayton has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for April 30-May 6.
Slayton, a freshman from Bakersfield, Calif., ran her fastest time in the 400-meter Hurdles finishing in 62.32. She placed second at the Titan Twilight and is fifth-best in the conference. Slayton is the top-ranked freshman in the WAC.
Other track nominees: Sommer Herner of Kansas City ran a 2:37.47 in the 1,500-meter making her fourth-best in school history and 12th in the WAC.

CHICAGO STATE
The Cougars competed in the NIU Huskie Challenge.
KANSAS CITY
The Roos closed out their regular season at the Arkansas Twilight and the Ward Haylett Invitational. Sommer Herner took fifth in the 1,500-meter run and notched fourth in the school's all time records with a time of 4:37.57. Walker Miller had the same outcome with fifth in the event and fourth in program history in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase. Matia Finley won the Discus Throw and Rebecca Finley placed third. Mia Jerman took third in the 3,000-meter run. At the Ward Haylett Invitational, Matia Finley, Traci Mills, and Alexa Pint all took runner-up in their field events. Jaques Perry, Perry Adderley, and Lukas van der Watt followed suit also all placing second.
SEATTLE U
The Redhawks competed in the Ken Shannon Invitational and posted nine personal records and seven Redhawks had top-three finishes. Michelle Newblom took third in the 100-meter Hurdles and Nicole Golba placed second in the 400-meter Hurdles. Rachel Van Liew took third in the High Jump and notched a personal-best. Tallia Sova threw the Shot Put 11.59 meters taking third. For the men, Kailan Claiborne and Steve Brown took second and third in the 400-meter dash while Lucas Milne took third in the 400-meter Hurdles.
UTAH VALLEY
The Wolverines were led by Alex Lawrence taking first in the Pole Vault at Weber State. He jumped 5.10 meters, setting another school record. Brandon Walker also found himself in the top three taking second in the 400-meter dash. Seth Krauss notched third in the High Jump. Anna Parkinson placed third in the Pole Vault for the women.
WAC ANNOUNCES PRE-CHAMP COACHES POLL
The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's outdoor track and field pre-championship coaches polls, as voted on by the nine head coaches in the league. Grand Canyon and Utah Valley tied as the favorite on the men's side while the Lopes took the honor for the women.
On the men's side, Grand Canyon and Utah Valley were picked as the favorites with four first place votes each and 46 points overall. UT Rio Grande Valley captured third place with 36 points. Next up is Kansas City with 31 points. California Baptist and CSU Bakersfield tied for fifth with 19 points each. Chicago State and Seattle U round out the field, respectively.
For the women, Grand Canyon was picked as the favorite to win the conference championship with seven first place votes and 63 points overall. NM State was close behind with 56 points and two first place votes. Utah Valley is favorited to finish third and had a total of 51 points. UT Rio Grande Valley grabs the fourth spot with 44 points. Kansas City claimed the fifth-place spot with 34 points and California Baptist followed with 30. Seattle U snagged 19 points closely followed by CSU Bakersfield with 18. Chicago State finishes the poll with nine points.

The 2019 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship will take place in Orem, Utah May 9-11. Utah Valley is set to host at the Hal Wing Track & Field.

On the field side of things, Corbin Chronister threw a personal best in the Hammer Throw reaching 198'5". He is ranked third-best in the nation and sixth all-time for the program.
