Eleven WAC Men's Golfers Named All-America Scholars
NORMAN, Okla. - Eleven WAC men's golfers were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars on Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
UT Rio Grande Valley led the way with four players earning the honor. Alvaro Hernandez earned the award for the second-straight season and was joined by teammates Henry Fisher, Luca Portelli and Alex Summers.
Hernandez wasn't the only repeat award winner from the WAC as Utah Valley's Jake Godfrey and NM State's Mike McGilton earned honors for the second year in a row. McGilton was joined by teammate Tadhg Campbell on the list.
California Baptist's Ben Hallam earned the honors, as did the Seattle U duo of Greg Gionfriddo and Zack Overstreet and Kansas City's McCain Schellhardt.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
