WAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week Announced
DENVER – Kansas City's Halle Hamilton and California Baptist's Abigail Tyhurst were selected as the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Sept. 9-15, respectively.
Hamilton, a senior defender from Lincoln, Neb., impressed on the offensive end as she netted two goals and added an assist in the Roos victory over Northern Iowa. This marks the first two goals of Hamilton's career and her third career assist. She also posted a career-high five points, leading Kansas City to its fifth win on the season as the Roos remain atop of the conference standings.
Tyhurst, a freshman goalkeeper from Cave Creek, Ariz., recorded two shutouts in two victories for the Lancers. She managed three saves on the weekend and has now posted four shutouts in just seven games. Tyhurst improved her save percentage to .800 and her goals-against average to a mere 0.69, placing her third amongst the conference in both categories.
Other offensive nominees: California Baptist's Ari Coronado scored the game-winner against Idaho as the Lancers went 2-0 on the weekend... Chelsee Duran of CSU Bakersfield recorded her second and third goals on the season in a tie with CSUN and a victory over Incarnate Word... Grand Canyon's Sophia Roberts netted her first career goal against UC Santa Barbara... NM State's Shea O'Connor scored her team-leading third goal on the season against rival UTEP on Thursday... Julianna Carter of Utah Valley also netted a game-winner in the Wolverines victory over UTEP.
Other defensive nominees: Hannah Edwards of Grand Canyon anchored the Lopes defense for 200 total minutes in two games this weekend... Kansas City's Afton Fennewald grabbed three saves in the Roos shutout victory over Northern Iowa... Jenna Shepherd of Utah Valley anchored the UVU defense and recorded an assist on the game-winning goal against UTEP.
