TicketSmarter WAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week Announced

DENVER – UT Rio Grande Valley's Max Carmona and Grand Canyon's Trey Johnson has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 13-19.

Carmona, the sophomore from Brownsville, TX, had a second place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:53.95. Carmona's 800m time is the fifth-fastest in UTRGV's program history. He also competed in the 4x400m relay were his team placed 12th with a time of 3:19.96.

Johnson, the sophomore from Tolleson, Ariz., recieved the gold in the Long Jump in the Lumberjack Challenge. Johnson re­corded a 7.73m in the event. This length is now first in the WAC this season. Johnson's record is also sixth in NCAA so far this season. 

Other track nominee: GCU's Johnson finished bronze in the 60-meter dash (7.97).

Other field nominee: UTRGV's Paul May came in first in Shot Put (16.25) this week, which is now third place in the UTRGV's program's history... Kansas City's Josh Benford came second in the High Jump (2.12m) this week but broke the school record and is now first in the WAC this season.
