UT Rio Grande Valley's Max Carmona and Grand Canyon's Trey Johnson has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 13-19.

Carmona, the sophomore from Brownsville, TX, had a second place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:53.95. Carmona's 800m time is the fifth-fastest in UTRGV's program history. He also competed in the 4x400m relay were his team placed 12th with a time of 3:19.96.

Johnson, the sophomore from Tolleson, Ariz., received the gold in the Long Jump in the Lumberjack Challenge. Johnson re­corded a 7.73m in the event. This length is now first in the WAC this season. Johnson's record is also sixth in NCAA so far this season.

Other track nominee: GCU's Johnson finished bronze in the 60-meter dash (7.97).

Other field nominee: UTRGV's Paul May came in first in Shot Put (16.25) this week, which is now third place in the UTRGV's program's history... Kansas City's Josh Benford came second in the High Jump (2.12m) this week but broke the school record and is now first in the WAC this season.

UT Rio Grande Valley's Tamara Woodley and Alexandrea Hurst has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for January 13 - 19.

Woodley, the freshman from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, broke records in her collegiate debut. in the 400m this week clocking a time of 57.61 seconds. This 400m time is the tenth-fasted time in the program's history and is also holding the number one spot in the WAC this season. In her debut, Woodley also ran in the 4x400m relay which is also holding the top position in the WAC this season.

Hurst, a sophomore from Robbinsdale, MN, earned gold the Shot Put event with a length of 15.61m, which is now holds first place in their program history and first in the WAC this season. Hurst also competed in the Weight Throw (16.34m), placing seventh, now third for the WAC this season.

Other track nominee: GCU's Alexa Hokanson placed as seconded in the 800m with a time of 2:18.27, which is now number one in the WAC.

Other field nominee: GCU's Madelyn Lundberg finished in the pole vault (3.91m), a personal best, and number one in the WAC.
