MEN'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: DEC 30 - JAN. 5
CSUB's Kris Rogic and CBU's Evan Honer has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 16-22.
Rogic, a junior from Zagreb, Croatia, landed 2 first place wins in the 200 IM (1:51.24) and 200 backstroke (1:49.86). He also came in second in the 100 backstroke (49.98), only .01 seconds behind first.
Honer, a freshman from Suprise, Ariz., earned 2 first place finishes. The first in the 3-meter board with 328.58 points and the 1-meter board with a score of 318.30. The 1- meter board score was a new best for Honer and moved him up to fourth in CBU's top-10 record book.
WOMEN'S ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: DEC. 30 - JAN. 5
Northern Arizona's Elisa Rodriguez and Emily Sharrer been named the Western Atheltic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 30 - Jan. 5.
Rodriguez, a junior from Pheonix, Ariz, secured two first place swims this past week against a strong Arizona team. Rodriguez came away with the 50 freestyle win with a new personal record of 23.49. She also reached a personal goal in the 100 freestyle (50.89) as well. In Rodriguez's career she holds the top all-time and school record in both the 50 freestyle (22.63) and 100 freestyle (48.90), is second all time in the 100 butterfly (54.22) and is part of the 400 freestyle relay team which hold the school record of 3:21.53.
Sharrer, a redshirt sophmore from Tucson, Arizona, finished with the top dive in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. She recorded a 258.65 at the 1-meter height to take gold and landed a 227.3 in the 3-meter event to earn her second win.
OTHER ATHLETES OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Other men's swimmer nominee: Joe Molinari of California Baptist finished another week with four top-three finishes.
Other men's diver nominee: CSU Bakersfield's Adam Estrella finished first in 1- meter board dive with 274.34, just missing his personal best by 1.5
Other women's swimmer nominee: CSUB's Jayssie Haynes set a season best in the 200 Freestyle. CBU's Rita Smironva had three wins 50 Freestyle (24.47), 100 Freestyle (53.25) and 400 Freestyle Relay (3:34.35)
Other women's diver nominee: California Baptist's Savannah Uhlir finished the week with a pair of top-two finishes as she finished first in the 1- meter board event (237.68) and second in the 3-meter (226.13). CSUB's Lauren Carson earned 3 second place finishes this week.
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancers started the year off strong with their 2020 homeopener win over Incarnate Word, 163-137. CBU monopolized the breaststroke with Sean Foster in first in both the 100 breakstroke (59.99) and 200 (2:02.86) while Colton Babcock in second (59.41 and 2:09.55). Joe Molinari had his way with the 200 backstroke (1:51.36) with a six second margin over teammate Robert Moseley (1:57.01) . CBU also had their way in the 100 butterfly, Molinari lead the pack (50.12) to have David Miller be runner-up and Josh Walters (51.84) and Adityashtha Wratsangka (51.92) in forth and fifth. Freshman Evan Honer overpowered UIW's CCSA Men's Diver of the Year in both board events. In the 3-meter board Honer scored forty points more that second place (328.58). In the 1-meter board, won first and set a new personal record at 318.30.
CSU BAKERSFIELD
The 'Runners fell to UC San Diego over the week, 159 - 141. Loren Gillilan won three events for the 'Runners, Gillilan was the fastest swimmer in the 200 Fly when he posted a 1:51.04 to win by nearly five seconds. He would add victories in the 100 Fly (48.33) and the 100 Free (46.10).
The Roadrunners' women's team also were bested by UC San Diego, 188-106. Senior Jayssie Haynes posted season-best times in three events. Haynes swan the 200 freestyle for just the second time this season and potted a 1:55.03 to finsih behind Mikayla Popham.
NM STATE
The Aggie women's swimming and diving team takes down CSU- Pueblo on Senior Day, 149 -79. Alix Knagg, Ashley Reynolds, Airam Oliva-Aun and Rachel Ponte started Aggies off with a win in the 200 Medley Relay before Mikaela Miele won the 1000 Free. Italia Aranzabal and Lilly Ellis finished one-two in the 1-meter.
North Arizona
The North Arizona women start off the year with a two-day dual meet against No.22 Arizona and No. 25 Northwestern Uiversity. The Lumberjacks found multiple top wins in their losses. Swimmer of the week, Elisa Rodriguez, bested Arizona and Northwestern in the 50 freestyle swim, which her personal best of 23.49. Haley Mayhew took a first-place in the 200 breaststroke at 2:21.76. Emily Sharrer took home the gold in the 1- meter platform with a final score of 258.65.
