DENVER - For the third straight season, the Western Athletic Conference had a men's soccer player go in the first round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Seattle U defender Nkosi Burgess was selected by FC Dallas with the 14th overall pick.

Burgess, the 2019 WAC Defensive Player of the Year, becomes the WAC's highest draft pick since SMU's Paul Broome was selected 12th overall by the Dallas Burn in the 1999 MLS SuperDraft.

UNLV midfielder Timo Mehlich was also taken on day one of the SuperDraft, going with the 52nd overall pick to Seattle Sounders FC. This marks the fourth straight season that Seattle has selected a player from the WAC.

With the two picks, both Seattle U and UNLV also move past SMU for the most players taken in the MLS SuperDraft as a member of the WAC. The Redhawks and Rebels each have five players selected since the WAC brought back men's soccer for the 2013 season.

Two more players were taken in Monday's portion of the MLS SuperDraft as Seattle U's Julian Avila-Good was selected by the hometown Sounders with the final pick of the third round and then UT Rio Grande Valley forward Kyle Edwards was selected by Houston Dynamo in the fourth round.
