TicketSmarter WAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Grand Canyon's Florent Janin and California Baptist's Evan Honer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 7-13.
Janin, a junior from New Caledonia, was a part of two pool records as he helped lead the Lopes to a 170-130 home win over California Baptist. He earned the top spot in the 100 freestyle, setting the pool record with a time of 43.87 seconds. This is also the 55th fastest time in the nation thus far. Janin added to his impressive showing when he anchored the 400 free relay and helped achieve another pool record, finishing in 2 minutes, 58.34 seconds. He also collected a second individual win in the 50 freestyle (20.22).
Honer, a sophomore from Surprise, Ariz., was the top diver in both events that were contested this weekend between California Baptist and Grand Canyon. Honer scored a 312.22 on the 1-meter board to collect the first-place finish by more than 30 points. He also posted the top score in the 3-meter event, finishing with 305.02 points.
Other swimmer nominees: California Baptist's Scott Tolman set a pool record in the 200 breaststroke (1:59.92) and also picked up a first-place finish in the 100 breast (55.43).
Other diver nominees: Grand Canyon's Thomas Wesche landed a pair of second-place dives, finishing with a score of 279.30 on the 1-meter board and 287.62 at the 3-meter height.
