TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Announced
DENVER - Grand Canyon's Katie Scott has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 14 through Dec. 20.
Scott, a freshman from Carl Junction, Mo., helped lead the Lopes this week, scoring a combined 35 points in a pair of road wins. Against Eastern Washington, she put up 20 points on 8-of-11 from the field to notch her fourth 20-plus point performance of her short collegiate career. She also snagged six rebounds and had two helpers against the Eagles. On Friday, Scott hit two three-pointers and finished with 15 points, two assists and a steal in just 11 minutes of play as the Lopes pulled out a three-point win over Houston Baptist.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Ane Olaeta nearly averaged a double-double as she helped lead the Lancers to an 8-0 start, combining for 18 points and 18 assists in a pair of wins over the week… Dixie State's Emily Isaacson finished with 10 points, six boards and zero turnovers to lead the way for DSU as they battled with Portland St. on Wednesday… NM State's Aaliyah Prince scored at least 20 points for the third straight game as she finished with 20 points, five rebounds and two steals in the Aggies' win over Denver… Seattle U's Bree Calhoun did it all for the Redhawks this week, posting a stat line of 14 points, six rebounds, nine assists, three steals and a block in a victory over Eastern Washington… Tarleton's Alexa Hoy managed career-highs in both rebounds (9) and assists (4) to lead the Texans as they took on North Alabama... UT Rio Grande Valley's Amara Graham tallied her third game of 20-plus points this season, hitting a career-high-tying four three-pointers on her way to 21 points in a tight win over Prairie View A&M.
