WAC MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
UNLV's Richard Szilagyi has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Dec. 14 through Dec. 20.
Szilagyi, a senior from Sighisoara, Romania, notched a pair of individual wins to lead the way for the Rebels as they took down WAC rival, California Baptist. Szilagyi turned in a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, reaching the wall at 50.13 seconds. He also posted the fastest time in the 100 freestyle (45.53). On top of his individual performances, the senior also led UNLV to a win in the 200 medley relay as he posted a 50 back split of 22.70 while the team finished at 1:29.30. Szilagyi also swam a 21.17 split in the 200 free relay (1:22.30) to help the Rebels close out the meet with a victory.

Other men's swimmer nominees: California Baptist's Josh Walters secured an individual first-place finish in the 100 fly (50.25) and also led the 200 free relay team to a win (1:24.01) against UNLV.
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The CBU men's swim team closed out their 2020 schedule with a dual against WAC foe, UNLV. Against the Rebels, Josh Walters led the way as he picked up a win in the 100 fly (50.25) and also took second in the 50 free (21.20). The redshirt senior was also joined by Jacob Leahy, Colton Babcock and Brandon Schuster to capture a win in the 200 free relay (1:24.01). The squad of Leahy, Scott Tolman, Walters and Schuster managed to finish second in the 200 medley relay (1:29.72). Tolman also collected individual wins in both the 100 breast (55.29) and 200 breast (2:02.06).
The women's swim team also took on the Runnin' Rebels in Las Vegas. Faith Brazil tallied the first win of the day for the Lancers as she touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.54). Buse Topcu added a win as well, finishing first in the 500 free (4:59.26). Nicole Cienega and Hunter Luna went 1-2 in the 100 fly, finishing at 58.02 and 1:04.34, respectively. Rebecca Oviedo added a win of her own when she reached the wall first in the 400 individual medley (4:46.40). CBU also managed a win in the 200 free relay as Rita Smirnova, Mia Maspers, Lydia Bartlett and Jenna Washburn combined to reach the wall at 1:38.29.

The Rebel men's swim team finally kicked off their season as they took down CBU, 141-116. The day started with a win as Richard Szilagyi, Jack Binder, Bryan Chavez and Reece Hemmens combined to out touch the Lancers by 0.42 seconds, finishing at 1:29.30. Vuk Celic impressed in the 1000 free as he took first with a time of 9:24.62 while teammate Cam Castro finished at 9:48.73 to place second. Castro notched a second individual win in the 500 free, reaching the wall at 4:35.80. Junior Michael Klauss posted the fastest time in the 200 fly (1:52.44) and Hemmens took first in the 50 free (20.78).
On the women's side, the Rebels also won the first event of the day as Blanka Bokros, Kate Afanasyeva, Tosia Iwanowska and Caitlyn Schreiber teammed up to win the 200 medley relay (1:44.12). Bokros, who made her collegiate debut on Wednesday, also won the 200 fly (2:00.85) and 100 fly (55.94). Teneka Ash piled on another win, taking home the 1000 free with a time of 10:12.65. Ash also earned a win in the final event of the day, touching first in the 500 free (5:01.36). Julia Filippova led a 1-2-3 finish for the Rebels in the 200 free, finishing at 1:53.01. Junior Kacey Kiuchi tallied another first-place finish for UNLV as she won the 200 back (2:03.65).
