MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: FEB. 3- 9

CBU's Evan Honer has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Diver of the Week for February 3-9.

Honer, the freshman from Surprise, Ariz., competed at the Air Force Diving Invitational this past week. Honer qualified for the finals in all three events. He won the 1-meter board with a score of 331.55 in the finals, took sixth on platform with a new season-best of 285.35 that ranks second in CBU's history in the event and finished 10th on the 3-meter board (287.65).

OTHER ATHLETES OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

Other men's swimmer nominee: Wyoming's Brendan Byrnes placed fourth in the quarterfinals (260.45) on the 1-meter board and third on the Platform (303.45).

 

THIS WEEK IN WAC SWIMMING AND DIVING

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST

At the Air Force Diving Invitational, Kiree Lowe qualified for the women's. Lowe scored a 206.80 in the prelims to put her in a tie for eighth place. She finished up in 12th place with a 176.40 total in the finals. Madeline Wiese scored a 165.80 for 22nd. Savannah Uhlir came in 23rd with a score of 164.70.

Evan Honer took sixth place for his third top-10 finish of the week after he won the 1-meter board on Friday. Honer scored 269 points in the prelims and then a 285.35 in the finals. Tyler Stevens almost qualified for the finals, in 13th place in the prelims (237.20).

IDAHO

To start off the meet Kaling Phung, Aimee Iwamoto, Rylie Jones and Katie Hale earned the win in the 200 Medley Relay (1:45.12). Later Iwamoto won the 100 Breast (1:05.39), and the 200 Breast (2:21.75). 

Phung won the 100 Back (57.57), Hale won the 50 Free (23.54) and Jones won the 100 Fly (56.54). Alexa Teneyck earned gold 1000 Free (10:25.71). Brianna Lucien won the 500-free in 5:13.04. Haylee Buyers earned two wins (200 Back;2:07.56, 400 IM; 4:38.84). Alexis Schmidt won the 200 Fly (2:07.05).

NORTHERN COLORADO

In the Bears loss, they secured six first place finishes. The team swept the 200 Fly, with Petra Kis (2:08.23) in first, Anna Austin (2:08.24) and Hallie Peterson (2:08.93) following. Maddy Moore won the 50 Free (23.82) and the 100 Free (52.34). Kis also won the 200 IM (2:08.69).

NEW MEXICO STATE
The Aggies lost but swam hard the final regular-season meet. Neza Kocijan earned gold in the 200 Free (1:54.85) for the Aggies' first win of the meet. Jordan Andrusak finished first in the 200 IM (2:10.64). Grace Laporte came in third with her season-best (10:35.18) in the 1000 Free. Lilly Araujo recorded a season-best time in the 100 Free (10:37.56).

WYOMING

The Cowboys competed in the Air Force Diving Invitational. On the first day Brendan Byrnes placed eighth (291.05), Elijah Chan placed 13th (259.90) and Payton Lee was 18th (238.80) in the 1-meter prelims to move on to the second round.
