WAC Announces Indoor Track & Field Pre-Championship Coaches Poll
DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's indoor track and field Pre-Championship Coaches Polls, as voted on by the six men's head coaches and eight women's head coaches in the league. Grand Canyon and Utah Valley shared the top spot on the men's side while the Grand Canyon women were selected as the lone favorite on the women's side for the fifth straight year.
On the men's side, Grand Canyon and Utah Valley were picked as the favorites with each landing three first-place votes and 23 points overall. UT Rio Grande Valley was selected to finish third with 17 points. Kansas City garnered 13 points as they were predicted to finish fourth. Chicago State earned eight points to put them in the fifth spot while Seattle U collected six points to round out the poll.
Coming off their sixth consecutive WAC title, Grand Canyon was picked as the favorite on the women's side. The Lopes received five first-place votes and gathered 47 points. NM State earned the three remaining first-place votes and was picked to finish second with 45 points. UT Rio Grande Valley picked up 35 points to land the third spot followed by Utah Valley who finished just two points behind to come in at number four. Kansas City tallied 17 points in the sixth-place slot while Chicago State and CSU Bakersfield each accumulated 11 points to finish the poll.
The 2020 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho this Friday-Saturday, February 28-29.
